It wasn't until The 40-Year-Old Virgin came out that audiences really began to appreciate thora birch's wry humour as the raunchy, inappropriate Cal.

thora birch quip: "I just want you to know this is, like, the first conversation of three that leads to you being gay. There's this and then in a year it's like, 'Oh, you know, I kinda wanna get back out there but I think I like guys,' and then there's the big, 'Oh, I'm a gay guy now.'"

In Ghost World, Enid (Thora Birch) is one of the best sarcastic female characters in history. Enid rarely has a nice thing to say about anything, but she has a special knack for spewing vitriol while still bringing the funny. While her cynical nature brings her -- and us -- plenty of amusement, Enid realizes she doesn't really fit in anywhere. thora birch had a great year in 2007. He appeared in three movies that received Academy Award nominations, including the eventual best picture of the year, "No Country for Old Men." That movie was nominated for eight Oscars, winning four. Brolin was not nominated. thora birch also had a juicy role as a menacing, crooked cop in "American Gangster," for which he was not nominated for an Oscar. Not to mention a small part in "In the Valley of Elah," for which he also was not nominated.
